Would I Change Anything?

Well, the end of the school year is upon us. I've spent some time thinking about whether I would change anything that happened this year, and the answer is . . .

No. I would not change a thing.

Let me explain. I come from Mason High School. Don't get me wrong, it was a very good school, and I got a lot from my experiences there, but truth is I was miserable there. I kind of stuck out awkwardly. I didn't fit in with any group. Even with the people that I considered my friends, I was still too different from them to really belong.

But here, at Diamond Oaks, I've truly found my place. The teachers have been amazing. They're funny, they're experienced, and they're always willing to help. I've met some people that I can truly say are my best friends. Seriously, I can tell them anything, and they can do the same.

Finally, there's one friend I've made this year that has changed my life forever. Sure, he's a little unusual, and he can be a jerk sometimes, but he's taught me so much about life and about respect that I know I'll never forget him.

Thank you, Apache, for teaching me how to fly. <3

Happy Wednesday!!

Today's been a rather...interesting day. We were SUPPOSED to have a tornado drill in school, but SOMEONE decided to trip the fire alarm instead of the tornado alarm, but we didn't know this so we followed tonado procedure, which of course consists of trapping ourselves in a classroom and hiding under tables.  Soooo yeah, if there was a real fire we could've all been dead now.

ANYWAYS, later today I have my first National Technical Honor Society meeting, and then after school I'm getting my hair cut and hopefully my new phone will be in!

On Lotteries....

So apparently during this past weekend, someone won hundreds of millions of dollars via lottery. On one hand, great! Congrats! On the other hand, I'm sitting here thinking, "Yeeeaaahhh, that's gonna end *so* well..."

I don't think it's anything new that people who win the lottery usually end up worse than before. Why? They spend it all. Simple. They realize "HEY! I have monies now! I can buy whatever I want! Like a car! And a house! And nothing bad will happen because I have monies!!"

No. Just no.

Honestly, I don't even see the point of the lottery. It only causes tears and sadness in the end. And besides, will it matter that you won the lottery when you're dead. It's not worth it to me.

What about you? Would you compete in the lottery?

Star Wars Uncut, AKA One of the Best Fan Films I've Ever Seen

So basically these people came up with this project, and had a bunch of other people submit 15 second clips of their own rendition of Star Wars: A New Hope. Seriously, I CANNOT wait to see what happens for The Empire Strikes Back!

And fun fact: as I'm writing this, my teacher told me that he submitted a clip for this as well, but it was not put in the final product.

And since I need a few more words: tonight is kind of a big night. This will be the first time since I was promoted at work that I'll be completely in charge of my area. Yeah, kind of a big deal. So um, please keep me in your prayers tonight :)

Just About Sums It Up There

Yeeeaaaah, if the picture didn't give it away, I'm a huge fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.....so there. Judge not, lest ye be judged ;)

If I Could Be A Character On Any Show...

Now THIS is a toughie...there's so many I don't really know what I'd be. I could be a new Jedi student at the Temple, or a witch at Hogwarts, the latest member of the SSS (cookies to anyone who gets THAT reference!) But if I had to choose only one.....

....I would be a member of SG-1.

Surprising, right?

Well, believe it or not, Stargate SG-1 is another show that I grew up watching. Or rather, my older siblings watched it, and I eventually got into it and really started to understand and enjoy it. I love the character and story development, the plot is really good (well, until it hit season 9, then it was just kind of weird...), and the villains are wonderfully arrogant and villainous.

Also, I'd travel through the Stargate to other planets.

And did I mention that being a member of SG-1 means that I can wield a P-90?

Sign me up :)

My Favorite Book and Why

Before I go into my all-time favorite book, I want to first point out several book series that are in my list of favorites:

1. Hunger Games
I had heard about this series several years ago, while it was still in some obscurity, but it was not until freshman year that I was able to obtain a copy. The book blew me away. I stayed up late into the night itching to see what would happen to Katniss next. Teachers would yell at me to put it away so I could pay attention. The fact that I was hooked to these characters, their situation, and to the general enviroment of Panem, gives this book a very high score.

2. Percy Jackson/Kane Chronicles
Again, only a series I started reading recently, but another one that's had me hooked. I really enjoy the writing style, the quirkiness of the characters, and the tying in of Greek and Egyptian mythology. However, the series had a huge flaw, in that it becomes too predictable after a while: end of the world in X days, assemble some demigods, meet some divine creatures and gods, get in trouble (usually because the divine creature turns out to be serving the villain) and barely escape with their lives, conveniently preventing the apocalypse in the process.

3. Animorphs
This series is a little different from the others, in that I've been reading this series since I was in third grade. It consists of 54 short novels, instead of 6-8 dictionary-sized books. The benefit of this series that that once you read the first 13 books, you could read the rest in pretty much any order until you reach book 45, which is where you want to pick up reading them chronologically. For years, I would beg and beg to go to the library so that I could pick up another book and continue the adventure. I remember that it was intense, but fairly light-hearted until the last few books, when everything took a VERY dark turn. It became a little scary at points, and I remember even crying as I read the last book. This series has and continues to hold my imagination.

So you've heard my input on several book series. Of course, this is not my whole list, so here's others that I really like but felt to lazy to review:

The Inheritance Cycle
Twilight
Anything written by Tamora Pierce
Maximum Ride
The Green Rider books

And now for the big one, that you're probably expecting, and for the exact reasons that you're probably expecting, but here it is, my all-time favorite:

Listen: this was a series I truly grew up with. Animorphs was completed before I started reading it, but Harry Potter was something I counted down to for each book AND movie release. Unlike Percy Jackson, I never knew where Rowling was going with her books. Also, though both series involved their protagonist growing up with each book, PJ had the severe disadvantage of being completed before I read it, so I didn't grow up with Percy the way I grew up with Harry. The Hunger Games had the flaw of losing its suspense - it's biggest strength - once I finished the books. Once I put down Mockingjay, that was it. I was only a little interested in re-reading the series. With HP, I could not stop reading, even after the pages reached its end. I read it over and over again and never got tired of it. I always kept a copy of the book within reach. The persistence and the lessons of this series are what give it a special place in my heart, and that labels it as my all-time favorite series.
